Biodiversity hotspot

A biodiversity hotspot is a bio-geography region with significant levels of biodiversity that is threatened by human  ( habitation, activities, industry, poaching ).

Biodiversity hotspot concept was given by Norman Myers in 1988. Biodiversity hotspot concept important criteria.

A . Species endemic - It must contain at least 1500 species of vascular plants (> 0.5% of the world total) as endemics

B . Degree of threat - It has to have lost at least 70 % of its original habitat.

Each of the world's biodiversity hot spots represents an abundance of extraordinary flora and fauna, who struggle to survive in an exceptionally shrinking ecosystem to survive their lives.

More than 50% of plant species found in the world and 42% of all terrestrial vertebrate species are endemic to hotspot with only 36 biodiversity.
